THE STORY

In July this year we set out in the middle of winter to explore a part of South Africa we’ve been wanting to do for many years.

The ‘Around Lesotho’ route has been on our list for quite some time and in February 2024 we’re pressing play to offer this adventure to you.

THE RIDING

This off-road focused route is a great opportunity to enjoy backcountry roads along the South Africa & Lesotho border. Some parts of this route are very remote and will offer you such great opportunity to appreciate beautiful landscape.

You’ll also be able to tick off several mountain passes in South Africa (Lundin’s Neck, Tiffandel Traverse & Naude’s Neck) as well as enjoy one of our favorite roads - the Lower Lotheni.

This area of South Africa can get hit with rain this time of year which can make things a bit more challenging.

Rider confidence is a must for this journey. NO BEGINNERS. We highly encourage you to make the time for off-road training prior to the trip as well as spend some time on your own bike prior to the trip.

MOTORCYCLE HIRE

For riders joining us from abroad you will be riding the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro.

*All riders will be responsible for a rental deposit as well as any damages to the motorcycle.

THE ACCOMMODATION

No more backpacker/budget style options.

For this adventure all guests can select whether they want to have private or shared rooms with no more than 2 guests sharing per room. All rooms will have en-suite bathrooms and adequate bedding. No need to bring any linen or towels (unless you want to go swimming in a river).

THE BONAFIDE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE

We've always been of the mindset that Bonafide Moto Co. curates adventures, rather than tours. The reasoning is simple – we're adventurers at heart.

To us, adventures come with ups and downs along the way. Some days are easy, while others will challenge you. Either way, you’ll reach your journey's end with a feeling of real accomplishment.

Bonafide Moto Co. adventures are carefully designed to encapsulate the true spirit of adventure travel. They take you along paths unknown, push the limits of your skills, make you work for your reward – and most of all, bring like-minded people together.

Adventures are all about a team effort. Each person finds a role, assisting others when they need help and knowing that each of us is in this together.

We pride ourselves on having the ability to create this camaraderie, with many of our guests returning year-on-year to rekindle those lasting friendships at the end of every day around the fire.

If you’re looking for an easy outride – this one isn’t for you. If you’re looking for a life-changing motorcycle adventure that will challenge you, make you part of a team, and help you grow as an individual – this is your next adventure and we look forward to hosting you!

ITINERARY

ACTUAL STOPS AND LOCATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

  • FLIGHT INFO:

Arrive into Johannesburg international airport before noon on February 28th.

We will arrange for members of our team to collect you from the airport or organize a shuttle to take you to your accommodation where your bike will be waiting for you.

You will have the opportunity to relax for the remainder of the day, hang out by the pool, get packed up and enjoy a dinner with our team this evening.

  • We will meet at Triumph South Africa on the Corner of South & Dartfield Road from 0700-0800. Coffee and muffins will be available here for you.

Our first rider brief will be done around 0800 and we’ll head out after.

It’s an all tar road day today as we need to cover ground and head south. We will have a leisurely lunch about half way along the route.

Dinner will be at our accommodation this evening where a rider brief will be held to give you an indication of what to expect the following day.

  • It will be a predominantly dirt road day as we set out from the small town of Wepener with a full tank of fuel.

We will be extremely remote for the entirety of the day, so we’ll take lunch with us and load up snacks to enjoy throughout the day. We will have our first few mountain passes this day.

The day will end in the small mountain town of Rhodes where our accommodation will be split up into 2 different locations.

  • We’ll wake up early and have breakfast as soon as possible.

Depending on weather conditions we’ll make our way along the Tiffindel Traverse. This will be a judgement call on the day as we have a predominantly dirt road day at our disposal with several mountain passes.

The views on this day are spectacular as we head out into the vast open planes, along rivers and up over mountain tops.

  • Another early morning and start to the day so we can cover some ground and go have some fun.

We’ll make our way close to Sani Pass and depending on weather conditions and timing, there may be an option to have some time on the pass.

We will make our way along one of our favorite roads in South Africa; Lower Lotheni as we have one last night as a group at the famous Nottingham Road Hotel.

  • We’ll wake up at our leisure, have some breakfast and make our way home.

For local residents wanting to head home early you may do so or you can head out with us.

For those traveling from overseas we will take you back to Johannesburg via the scenic route which goes via Sterkfontein Dam, Golden Gate National Park and Clarens which is a beautiful part of the country for you to see before leaving.

Our team will drop you off at your last night accommodation for you to settle into and have your bike collected.
