THE RIDING

The Lost Tusk takes place in the beautiful South West region of India known as Kerala. Kerala was very unknown to us prior to our arrival and is a lesser known place to tour on motorcycles away from the very popular Himalayan motorcycle adventures that sees thousands of people every year.

Kerala offers a wide variety of roads and scenery each and every day on The Lost Tusk. The path we chose starts in the busy city of Kochi where you are instantly thrown into the heavy flow of Indian traffic. You’ll learn very quickly that your horn is your friend.

Your first day of riding will be short and a great way to get you familiar with what to expect with India’s roads. The majority of the trip will be on tar roads, but we’ll do our best to find some detours that could take us on a bit of tar. What you’ll find with the Royal Enfield Bullet 500’s is that they are like tractors. They’ll go anywhere and they won’t be doing it fast.

We try to mix up riding distances as much as possible to give you more rest on some days, and the next could be a longer day. Our longest day of riding will be 220kms so we’ll be up early that day. Some days are shorter 50-100kms, but they will still end up being long days. We don’t average high speeds on this trip and we’ll make the most of our days by exploring around.

One of the bigger concerns you’ll have on the trip is just getting used to the intense flow of traffic. After a day, you’ll get used to it and your bike. Outside of that, it is an absolutely beautiful and spectacular place to ride.

THE ADVENTURE

In February 2020 we set out on our first adventure into India on an adventure called “The Lost Tusk” Our goal was to take riders back later that year, but we all know that the world came to a hault. Since then, we’ve been focusing on adventures here in Southern Africa all while having a trip back to India in our mind. It’s safe to say that the south of India - Kerala, also known as ‘God’s Own Country,’ has kept us wanting to go back. In February 2024 we’re taking you back with us.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel the pulse of a country on a motorcycle, Southern India is the place to go! We absolutely LOVED this country and riding atop your Royal Enfield Bullet 500 or Himalayan is the ultimate way to experience this beautiful part of the world. The people are so friendly, the roads are spectacular, you’ll absolutely love the food along the way and you won’t want to leave.

Join us in February 2024 on a great motorcycle adventure with plenty of time in the day to stop at shops, explore around and enjoy every minute of Kerala.

ITINERARY

ACTUAL STOPS AND LOCATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

  • You’ll fly in to Kochi International Airport. Our suggestion is to arrive as early in the day as possible. This will give you plenty of time to explore around Kochi rather than arriving late in the evening and having to leave the following day.

  • Your first day on the bikes will be nice and short. We’ll leave after breakfast and head south to the backwaters of Alappuzha! After a few hours of riding, we’ll park the bikes, unload the bags and load them onto a houseboat. The remainder of the day will be spent on the water and we’ll do an overnight on the boat!

  • Breakfast will be served on the boat! We’ll be back to shore around 9am and head to the bikes where we’ll navigate our way North east on the bikes to the tea region and town of Munnar.

  • Munnar is a great town to explore! We’ll take our time leaving in the morning, make some detours, stop for tea along the road and eventually make our way north towards Pollachi.

  • We’ll spend the majority of the day riding through reserves and enjoying some nice twisties. Be sure to soak in the views on this great day of riding!

  • We’ll wake up in the forest at Silent Valley and spend a full day on the bikes navigating our way through wilderness reserves. You’ll lose count of all the twists and turns we made on this day.

  • It’ll be another beautiful day on the bikes as we continue our way through more nature reserves. Our aim this day will be to head west…TO THE BEACH! Here you’ll get a taste of riding your Royal Enfield on the beach :-) After enjoying some time on the beach we’ll continue the ride south to our accommodation just a few blocks from the beach.

  • It’s a day of heading south along the beach roads and we’ll do our best to find as many detours as possible! Our accommodation for this evening will be along the river banks.

  • It’s a short day’s ride from Cherai Beach (30kms) to where we’ll drop off the bikes in Kochi. It’s recommended to get an evening flight so you can spend the day exploring Kochi on foot before setting off to the airport (1.5 hr drive)
