THE ADVENTURE
In 2022, we hosted our very first Run to the Border—an idea born after discovering hidden backroads that hug the Botswana border fence. That first ride taught us a lot, and more importantly, gave everyone an unforgettable adventure. So, we’re bringing it back.
This time, we kick things off in Johannesburg, carving our way north through quiet backroads until we land at a private game lodge near Bela Bela. Think sunset braai, good company, and a morning game drive to start things off right.
From there, we ride past the wild beauty of Marakele National Park, curve around towards the edges of Madikwe Game Reserve, and the following day, trace the border fence itself—an untamed stretch of backcountry routes that few ever get to experience. Finally, we roll back into Joburg with dust on our boots, memories in our pockets, and stories worth retelling.
THE RIDING
This adventure offers the best of both worlds—smooth stretches of tar and exciting off-road routes. Off-road sections include well-traveled gravel roads, scenic two-tracks, and stretches along the Botswana border fence.
We keep the ride pace steady and enjoyable, with a strong focus on safety. Every rider is encouraged to stay within their comfort zone while still soaking up the thrill of the terrain.
Expect remote landscapes ranging from rugged mountains to thick bushveld, all leading us closer to the border.
Rider Skill Level: Prior off-road training or experience is required. This ride is not for beginners.
Road Surface: Predominantly gravel and dirt roads—well-used but with enough challenges to keep things interesting. No single tracks or technical trails on this trip.
THE FOOD
Food is always at the heart of our adventures, and on Run to the Border the fire becomes our constant companion. On the first night at Tsedela Game Reserve, we’ll gather around the boma for a proper South African braai—flames crackling, cold drinks in hand, and braaibroodjies sizzling on the grid. There’s nothing quite like sharing stories under the stars while the smoke from the coals drifts upward, marking the start of an unforgettable journey.
The following night, we’ll keep tradition alive with another braai, this time right in the middle of the bush—a setting that makes every bite taste better. And to round things off, our final evening together will see us trade the open fire for a hearty buffet dinner, a chance to sit down, reflect on the ride, and enjoy a feast earned through adventure. From start to finish, the fire will be our friend, bringing warmth, flavour, and connection to every night on the border.
THE ACCOMMODATION
We begin the adventure in style with a night at a 5-star game lodge at Tsedela, where every rider will have their own room to unwind after the first day’s ride. It’s the perfect mix of comfort and luxury before we head deeper into the wild.
From there, accommodation will vary to suit every rider’s preference—whether you’re after the ease of a private room, the camaraderie of a shared space, or the adventure of camping under the stars for two nights. Don’t worry about the gear—we’ll carry all the camping equipment for you.
Each stop along the route has been chosen with care, from unique lodges with warm, welcoming hosts to bush camps that bring us closer to the land. No matter where we rest, you can count on a cozy place to sleep, hot showers, and hearty meals to refuel for the next day’s ride.
THE BONAFIDE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE
We've always been of the mindset that Bonafide Moto Co. curates adventures, rather than tours. The reasoning is simple – we're adventurers at heart.
To us, adventures come with ups and downs along the way. Some days are easy, while others will challenge you. Either way, you’ll reach your journey's end with a feeling of real accomplishment.
Bonafide Moto Co. adventures are carefully designed to encapsulate the true spirit of adventure travel. They take you along paths unknown, push the limits of your skills, make you work for your reward – and most of all, bring like-minded people together.
Adventures are all about a team effort. Each person finds a role, assisting others when they need help and knowing that each of us is in this together.
We pride ourselves on having the ability to create this camaraderie, with many of our guests returning year-on-year to rekindle those lasting friendships at the end of every day around the fire.
If you’re looking for an adventure in your life that will challenge you, make you feel part of a team, and help you grow as an individual – this is your next adventure and we look forward to hosting you!
